About this event

Join us for this dedicated ballet studio portrait experience day which will be led and tutored by award winning photographer Panikos in his dedicated home studio. On this day Panikos will be teaching you lighting techniques, camera settings and posing to take stunning ballet dancer images. In his home studio he has a range of professional studio lighting, backdrops and props available for you to use. The day will be very hands on so you will be able to take hundreds of images while Panikos tutors and demonstrates. You will have plenty of one on one shooting time with our professional ballet dancer and each attendee will take it in turns to capture each dance pose & portrait under Panikos's excellent instruction and guidance.

Your course leader for the day is award winning photographer Panikos Hajistilly:

Panikos has won dozens of National Awards with his imagery, including the prestigious MPA Master Photographer of the Year in 2017/18 and MPA president from 2020-2021. He has a Fellowship with the MPA, a Master Craftsman with the Guild of Photographers and a Fellow with the SWPP and the BIPP. His work speaks for itself, in that you will always see "clean” images with great connection, expressions and a relaxed feel to the photos he creates. A lot of his time is now spent teaching his lighting styles to professional and amateur photographers alike. Panikos has his own home studio where he does most of his work using both natural and studio light – or a combination of the two. He also loves working on location, whether it’s in the great outdoors or in the city. Panikos has vast experience in photographing everything from maternity, newborns, babies and families, portraits as well as pets of all types. You can see some of Panikos's work here.

Course schedule:

On this day you will get 4 hours of shooting time with our dancer in a variety of different dance poses, outfits and lighting. We will then do 2 hours of image editing and finishing to make the most out of your images taken on the day. In the editing session you will learn how Panikos professionally finishes his images to give them the wow factor. You will then be able to print and take home an A4 print of one of your images from the day. Questions are welcome throughout the day and we hope to demystify flash photography and get you more confident with lighting your subjects.

The aim of this day is to bring your portrait photography to the next level, expanding your knowledge of flash and studio lighting as well as posing and balancing lighting, giving you the chance to try new things, all with your professional trainer on hand to offer advice and assistance. We just advise that you have knowledge of ISO, shutter speed and Aperture and have some experience using your camera on manual mode to get the most out of this day. All lighting will be provided.

What to expect:
A small group of just 5 photographers
A dedicated and fully equipped photography studio
A professional ballet dancer who will model in a few different outfits
